Chief Alfred Idowu, ICMA, was born on May 23, 1954 at Isewo, Ijebu Imusin, to the family of Pa Moses and Madam Celinah Idowu, both of blessed memory.  He attended St. Anthony’s Anglican Primary School, Imuwen, between 1959 and 1965 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. Between 1968 and 1972, he attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Ijebu Imusin, where he passed the West African School Certificate. In 1974, he moved on to do his higher education at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, and finished with the National Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1977. He graduated with B.Sc Education/Chemistry from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, after being there for three years between 1980. He holds a Masters of Education (M.ED) from the University of Benin, which he completed between 2000 and 2002.  

He served as teacher in many secondary schools in Ogun State and as Principal in three schools: Ijebu Imusin Comprehensive High School (1995-97); Ibiade Comprehensive High School, Ogun Waterside (1997-2008); Abusi Odumare Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, from 2008 to 2012, when he voluntarily retired.  

He was Ogun State ANCOPSS Auditor from 2003 to 2007. He served in Ijebu Imusin Planning Body severally as General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Rally Coordinator, Vice President and President between 1992 and 2008. He still serves as the Chairman of IPB Education Committee.

In 1996, he received the title of Chief Akewela of Ijebu Imusin from Alayeluwa Oba S. A. Onafowokan, Oloko of Ijebu Imusin, and was honoured with the Ijebu Imusin Community Merit Award (ICMA) by IPB in the year 2000. He is married to Madam Stella Maria Oluwemimo Idowu.
