Mrs. Modupe Olufunmilayo Jaiyesimi was born in Odolameso, Ijebu Imusin, into the family of Major Simeon Francis and Mrs. Ruth Adefowora Adeniyi. She started her primary education at St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Imusin where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1951.  Later, she attended Methodist Girls’ High School, Yaba, between 1952 and 1957 for her West African School Certificate. In 1958, she attended CMS Grammar School, Bariga, and passed the A/Level exams in 1959.  She proceeded to read for higher qualifications at the Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan, in 1959 and graduated with a B.Sc. in Physics in 1964. She gained admission into the University of Ibadan where she earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Education between 1968 and 1969.  

She started her teaching career at the Methodist Girls’ High School, Yaba, where she worked from 1964 to 1973.  Shortly afterward, she taught at the Federal School of Arts and Science until 1983. She was Vice Principal (Academic) at Kings College, Lagos, from 1983 to 1987, and at Queens College from 1987 to 1996. She retired from teaching in 1996.

She has been on the Board of Governors of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, since 1996.  She is the first female indigene of Ijebu Imusin to complete all her educational programs within Nigeria.
