Pa Samuel Adeyingbo Talabi was born September 14, 1938, at Idona Ijebu Imusin into the family of Pa and Madam Martin Talabi Onafalujo. Having completed his First School Leaving Certificate in 1954, Samuel Talabi attended St. Matthew’s Teachers Training College and earned his Teacher Grade III Certificate in 1960. He sat for and passed seven subjects at the GCE O-Level (London University) in 1961 and three subjects at GCE A-Level in 1962. He went further to earn a Diploma Certificate in Banking in 1963, and the Chartered Institute of Secretaries Certificate in 1967.
Between 1960 and 1962, he taught at his Alma Mater, St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Imusin. He worked with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) from 1962 to 1963. The year he left WAEC, he joined the Central Bank of Nigeria and worked there until 1989. Earlier in 1981, he had become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of London. He was later to work as a part-time lecturer at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, and for 13 years he was the Chief Examiner in Practice of Banking.
Between 1994 and 2001, he was a regular recipient of several commendation certificates from the institute. He is a prolific author on the Practice of Banking and has traveled to different countries around the world for seminars on banking, such as the USA, Mexico, and England. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Sapida Micro-finance Bank—the Ijebu Imusin Community Bank.
Pa Samuel Talabi is a devout member of the Anglican Communion (St. Mary’s Anglican Church) in Ijebu Imusin. He is happily married with children and grandchildren.
