Dr. Adekoya Khalid Olajide was born on January 13, 1967 at Ado-Ayanlu, Ijebu Imusin. He attended Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School, Isolo, Lagos, from 1971 to 1976. That same year, he moved to Ansar-ud-Deen College, Isolo, Lagos, where he completed his secondary school education in 1981. He proceeded to the University of Lagos to read Biology (1983 -1987) and obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) in Biology in 1987. He continued his education in the same university in 1989, graduating with an M.Phil (Genetics) in 1991 before earning his PhD (Cell Biology & Genetics) in 2009. He also attended a training course on ‘Biotechnology and Tissue Culture’ at the Agricultural Research Institute, (BNRI), Accra, Ghana, in 2011 and later on DVA Forensic Technology, Nigeria, in 2013.
From 1995 to 1997, he was Assistant Lecturer, at the Department of Zoology, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos. Later that year, he rose to Lecturer II in the same department, serving until 2002. In 2005, he became Lecturer II, Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, where he served until 2009 during which time he was promoted to Lecturer I, Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, a post he held until 2011.
In 2011, Dr. Adekoya Khalid Olajide became a Senior Lecturer, in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, and worked until 2014. Throughout these years, he served as a teacher, administrator, and researcher, and he has at different times been a resource person and consultant to many projects. He has served on several Editorial Advisory Boards of academic journals within and outside Nigeria. He served as Member of Senate, Ag Head of Department, Cell Biology and Genetics (2013-2014); and Member, Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos (2013-2014).
He was President, of the National Association of Ogun State Students, University of Lagos (1992); Chairman, of the Constitution Drafting Committee, of the Ijebu Descendants Students Association, University of Lagos (1990-1991); and Deputy President, of the Unilag Muslim Alumni from 2009. He is a member of the Ijebu Imusin Planning Body (IPB).
Dr. Khalid Olajide is a member of many professional bodies – the Genetics Society of Nigeria (GSN); World Poultry Science Association, Netherlands (WPSA); Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology (NISEB); Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), Belgium; Nigeria Institute of Biology, Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan; and Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON); amongst others.
He has authored and co-authored several textbooks and journal articles, both national and international, and presented at various peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
Dr. Khalid Olajide has been the recipient of the following awards: Grand Merit Award as Outstanding Member of Ijebu Descendant Students Association, University of Lagos (1992); Honorary Award for Outstanding Service to the Community of Lagos State University, Anthony Village Campus, Idi-Iroko, Lagos (2004); Lecturer of the Year 2012, Department of Cell Biology and Genetics; Best Lecturer (Male) Award 2013, Department of Cell Biology and Genetics; CBG Man of the Year Award 2013, Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, among others.
He is actuated by the humanitarian philosophy of caring for humanity. His many interests and hobbies include reading and traveling. Dr. Khalid Olajide is married to Alhaja Bilquees Adekoya and they have five children.
