Born on July 13, 1944 to Pa Gabriel Ajayi and Madam Victoria Ajayi of Owoye, Ijebu Imusin, Otunba Matthew Ajayi, JP, began his early education at St. Peter Claver’s Catholic Primary School, Esure, then moved to St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Yaba, Lagos, before proceeding to study at the Teacher Training College at Ile-Ife and Abeokuta. He later went on to study for a higher degree at the University of Lagos.
He taught in many schools and was the Head Teacher of St. Martins’ Catholic Secondary Modern School, Esure, between 1961 and 1964. Subsequently, from January 1961 to August 1964, he served as Catholic Schools’ Administrative Assistant for Ijebu and Colony Areas. He worked with Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Sports and Social Development, and then as Monitoring and Investigation Officer from 1983 to 1989 before his retirement.
For quite a number of years, he was choirmaster at the Catholic Church, Esure, Ijebu Imusin. He is presently a member of Ijebu Imusin Council of Chiefs, and holds the title of ‘Otunba Odofin’ of Ijebu Imusin.
