Professor Warisu Alli was born on July 23, 1948 at Ijebu Imusin. He attended primary and secondary schools to obtain his First School Leaving Certificate and West African School Certificate respectively. He secured admission into Kiev State University, Kiev, Ukraine, in 1972, where he studied until 1981, gaining a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in 1976 and a Master of Arts in International Relations in 1981. Subsequently, he was awarded a Certificate in Russian Language.
He has served in the academia all over the world. He was Acting Dean, Faculty of Social Science, University of Jos, from 1990 to 1992; and was Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (UNIJOS Chapter) from 1989 to 2000. He has been a member of the National Council on NEPAD since 2009, and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Jos, since 2011.
Professor Alli is a member of a number of professional bodies such as Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), Nigeria Social Science International Affairs (NSIA), African Association of Political Science (AAPS), and International Political Science Association (IPSA). He has also been Visiting Lecturer to quite a number of institutions, among them Foreign Service Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lagos; National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru; National Defence College, Abuja, and a host of others.
He has edited many books and written a good number of books and journal articles. His participation in international conferences and seminars has taken him round the world to many different countries, including USA, Canada, Russia, China, India, Liberia, Ghana and others too numerous to mention. He is happily married with children.
