Otunba Abisola Koledafe Gbosibo was born at Idomodu, Ijebu Imusin, in April 1934 into the Christian family of Pa Abel Odukoya Gbosibo and Madam Susanna Omoyeni Gbosibo (of blessed memory). Otunba Abisola Gbosibo started his primary school education at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Imuwen, from January 1941 to December 1947. He proceeded to St. Mary’s Anglican School, Ijebu Imusin, to complete his primary school education in 1949. On completion of his primary school education, he proceeded to Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, where he completed his secondary school education and sat for his School Certificate Examination in December 1955. In January 1956, he went to Lagos to seek the Golden Fleece.
That same month, he was appointed as an Insurance Clerk with Royal Exchange Assurance, Marina, Lagos. Because he was professionally inclined, he resigned his appointment in 1957 and joined the Western Region Civil Service (Lands and Survey Department). He was sent to Survey School, Oyo, where he was trained as a survey assistant in 1959 and later went back to the same school for the Advanced Course in Land Surveying from 1966 to 1967.
Having left the civil service, he worked with Adekunle Kukoyi & Partners, a land surveying firm that later metamorphosed into the Nigerian Mapping Firm. The firm sent him to Budapest, Hungary, for training in Land Surveying and Mapping. He retired from the firm in 1984, when he was installed the customary Otunba by his people. Since then, he has gone back home to serve his people more diligently. From December 1987 to 1989, he was elected Councillor for the whole of Ijebu Imusin (now known as Imusin Ward One and Two) in Ijebu East Local Government of Ogun State.
He was baptized in 1942 at St. Andrew’s Church, Imuwen, Ijebu Imusin, and confirmed in 1954 at St. Saviour’s Church (now Cathedral) Italowajoda, Ijebu Ode. He was a member of the Parish Council from 1980 to December 2008, and Chairman of St. Andrew’s Church Dedication Committee and Building Committee for the Vicarage in 1985. He has been the President of Y.M.C.A, St. Andrew’s Church since 1985.
He was also Patron, of Boys and Girls Brigade, St. Andrew’s Church, Imuwen, and Synod Delegate from 1984 to 2006. He served as Treasurer of Ijebu-Imusin D.C.C and Ijebu East Archdeaconry (now Ijebu Imusin Archdeaconry) from 1991 to 2007. He was a Diocesan Board Member from 1992 to 2006, and a Board Member, of Ijebu East (now Ijebu Imusin Archdeaconry) from 1984 to 2008. He is the Balogun-ijo of St. Andrew’s Church, Imuwen, Ijebu Imusin, and belongs to many social clubs and community associations.
Otunba Gbosibo’s favorite pastime is farming. He is married with children.
