Oba David Jaiyeola was born on January 26, 1912 at Ijebu Imusin to the union between Pa Gabriel Jaiyeola Kakanfo of Ijebu Imusin and Madam Juliana Idowu (Otubowale) Jaiyeola. He attended St. Mary’s School, Ijebu Imusin, from 1923 to 1929. He was a teacher at Igbaga in 1930. He later learnt tailoring and he completed his training in 1936. He was a contractor sewing uniforms for the Nigeria Police till 1954 when he became the Oloko of Ijebu Imusin.
His coronation took place on June 4, 1954. His reign as Oba was characterized by important developments such as the construction of the borehole at Odolameso; electricity supply; the building of a Post Office and two secondary schools – St. Anthony’ Grammar School, Esure, and Ijebu Imusin Comprehensive High School, Ikala/Ilagunjo; extension of Ijebu Imusin market; extension of telephone lines; tarring of roads; and the establishment of Wema Bank at Odonapa, Ijebu Imusin; to mention a few. He also ensured the independence of Ijebu Imusin in its relationship with Ijebu Ode.
Oba Jaiyeola was a lover of children and always visited his children wherever they lived. He was a devout Christian and was the Life Patron of the Church of the Lord (Aladura). He lived and died for the peace and unity of Ijebu Imusin. He joined his ancestors on July 12, 1989. He was survived by many prominent children.
