Prince Mashood Adewunmi Lukan was born in 1900 into the Royal Family of Oba Obelu Lukan of Esure, Ijebu Imusin, and Madam Moriamo Lukan of Odo-Ayanlu, also of Ijebu Imusin. He attended St. Peter Claver’s Catholic School, Esure, Ijebu Imusin, after which he became a Court Clerk at the Ijebu Divisional Native Authority from where he ventured into the private sector in 1938.
He became a representative dealer of G. B. Olivant Nigeria Limited in Ijebu Imusin, where he provided reliable services to the community and the neighbouring towns and villages. G.B. Olivant, Ijebu Imusin became a vibrant and popular trading store. As a result, he earned promotion in the year 1974 to the position of Provision Stores Manager and was transferred to the company’s head office in Ibadan.
Prince Lukan, fondly called by his pet name, ‘Agunbiade’, brought vigour and transparency to his post, and within a short space of time he was promoted to the highest post of Agent, a position he retained until his death.
His contributions to the community transcended the fields of education and religion. He was steadfast in his commitment to the establishment of educational institutions in Ijebu Imusin. For instance, he played significant roles in the establishment of Muslim Primary School, Esure, Ijebu Imusin, and St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Esure, Ijebu Imusin. He served on the management committees of these schools at various times.
Similarly, he participated in many worthy community projects of his time, spanning the religious divide. He was married to eight wives and was blessed with many children.
