Otunba Simon Odubela was born on October 27, 1944 at Idanre, Ijebu Imusin.  He began his primary school education in 1956 at St. Peter Claver’s Primary School, Ijebu Imusin, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1957. A year later, he proceeded to Blessed Martin’s Secondary Modern School, Esure, and earned the Modern III Learning Certificate in 1960. In 1961, he went to St. Mark’s Grade III TTC, Iperu Remo, and attained the Grade III Teacher Certificate in 1962. From 1967 to 1968, he attended St. Joseph’s TTC, Surulere, where he obtained the Grade II Teacher Certificate.

He also studied at the College of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka (1970-1973) to gain his National Certificate in Education (NCE). He went further in his academic quest to obtain a B.Sc. (Hons) degree at the University of Lagos (1974-1977), and later a Master’s degree in Education (M. Ed) at the University of Ibadan (1982-1983).

He worked as a teacher in many primary and secondary schools in Ogun and Lagos States between 1963 and 1979. He later joined the services of Tai Solarin College of Education in 1979. Otunba Simon Odubela belongs to many professional associations such as Science Teachers Association of Nigeria; Academic Forum, Ijebu; Biology Teachers Association; and Integrated Science Teachers Association, Ogun State.

He served and has continued to serve Ijebu Imusin Community and Ijebu East Local Governments in various capacities as follows: Member, Ijebu Imusin Poverty Education Committee (2003); Member, Ijebu Imusin Council of Chiefs (since 1993); Secretary, Ijebu Imusin Security Council (1996); Member, Child Welfare Association Ijebu East (since 1981); Chairman, Ijebu Imusin Club of Clubs (1981); and Publicity Secretary, Young Men Catholic Association, Esure, Ijebu Imusin.

He has many published works in education journals and books of proceedings.
