Chief (Mrs.) Patience Ogundeko was born in Kaduna on February 26, 1937 into the family of Papa and Madam Olukoya of Ijebu Imusin. She attended St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Imusin, for her primary education. She had her secondary school education at Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, and later at United Mission College, Ibadan. Her tertiary education began at the Advanced Teacher College, Institute of Education, Zaria. Between 1943 and 1970, she obtained her several educational certificates, including First School Leaving Certificate, Teacher Grade II Certificate and Nigeria Certificate in Education NCE).
She began her teaching career in 1959 until August 1983. While in service, she was promoted to the rank of senior master before she voluntarily retired in August 1983 to join her husband, Major-Gen. T. B. Ogundeko in his business.
Between February 1990 and January 1991, she was Supervisory Councillor for Health in Ijebu-East Local Government, Management Committee; President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Ijebu-East Chapter (1991-1997); Treasurer, Ijebu Council of Chiefs for 12 years; and a member of Parish Council of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Ijebu Imusin, for so many years.
She introduced early child care at the Court Hall, Ijebu Imusin. She sponsored an indigene of Ijebu Imusin on a university scholarship to study Banking and Finance for five years. She championed the building of the maternity block of the Ijebu Imusin Health Centre by the Ijebu Imusin Ladies League. She is the first woman in Ijebu Imusin to be honoured with the title of ‘Patroness of a Community Development Committee’.
In November 2000, she received the Ijebu Imusin Community Award, having been previously conferred with the chieftaincy title of Atoyegbe of Ijebu Imusin in 1982 by the Alayeluwa Oba David Adeoye Jaiyeola II. She is happily married to Otunba Maj. Gen. T. B. (rtd.), and they are blessed with successful children.
