Prince Benjamin Ibikunle Oguntubo was born on July 1, 1942, to Omo-Oba Solomon Oguntubo Ogebule (1904-1992) and Madam Julianah Talabi Oguntubo Ogebule. Prince Oguntubo had four years of primary school education at St. Mary’s Anglican School, Ijebu-Imusin, from 1945 to 1955, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1955. He moved to Ijebu Ode Grammar School for his secondary school education in 1956 and obtained the West African School Certificate in 1960.
In 1966, he passed the GCE A/L (London) in Accra, Ghana. In 1965, he was on a United Nations Scholarship at the University of Ghana School Of Administration, Achimoto, Ghana, where he earned a Diploma in Statistics in 1966. He later attended the University of Lagos, Akoka, where he received a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Economics in 1972. He became a Registered Statistical Assistant at the Institute of Statisticians (AIS), London in 1966, Institute of Bankers, London (A.I.B Part-1) in 1977, and was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration, Nigeria (FICA) in 1997.
From 1960 to 1969, Prince Oguntubo served as a Third Class Clerk to the Assistant Statistical Officer, Federal Office of Statistics, Ikoyi, Lagos, which was later merged with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He was Clerk Grade B, later Supervisor, and eventually Senior Supervisor in the Central Bank of Nigeria Research Department, Lagos from 1969. After his 17-year career in the public service, he voluntarily retired in June 1977.
His first foray into the private sector began in July 1977 at Pfizer Products Plc., which later became known as Neimeth International Pharmaceutical Plc. He served in various managerial positions for 27 years, including being appointed as Production Planning and Inventory Control Manager (1977-1980), Warehouse/Distribution Manager (1980-1990), and Senior Credit Control Manager until he retired in 2000.
Prince Oguntubo has been a member of St. Peters’ Church, Faaji, Lagos, since 1961 and St. Peter’s Goodwill Society since 1962, where he has held many positions over the years. He is a former member of the Guild of Stewards and a former member of the Harvest Planning Committee. He is an Honorary Patron of the Christian League and has been a Sunday School Teacher since 1962. In recognition of his 35 years of service to the church, he was a recipient of the Church Patronal Day Long Service Award in 1999. He served for 21 years as President of the Anglican Youth Fellowship, St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Ijebu-Imusin from 1992 to 2013. He was appointed General Secretary/Harvest Co-ordinator, Lagos Branch of the Home Church Planning Committee from 1974 to 2014, and is an ex-member of the Church Choir. He belongs to several other social and professional bodies.
Prince Oguntubo derives great joy in singing church hymns. A lover of little children, he was happily married to Mrs. Victoria Oluremi Oguntubo who passed away in 1998. Their marriage was blessed with many children and grandchildren.
