Otunba Igbodipe Andrew Okutade was born on June 13, 1905. He had his early education at St. Peter Claver’s Catholic Primary School, Esure, Ijebu Imusin, from 1915 to 1920 before moving to St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School to complete his Standard Six between 1921 and 1923. He was further educated at the School of Hygiene, Eleyele, Ibadan, where he was awarded the Health Inspectors Certificate in 1945.
In 1924, he became a teacher at Catholic School, in Ala, where he served until 1926. He was also Head Teacher at Holy Angels Catholic Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu Imusin from 1927 to 1929. He was Senior Sanitary Inspector, at Omu, Ijebu Ode, Ijebu-Ife from 1930 to 1942; Senior Public Health Inspector, Ijebu North District Council from 1950 to 1964; and Senior Public Health Inspector at Osunmorigun Provisional Authority, Ogbere, from 1965 until 1970 when he retired.
He was President of the Ijebu Imusin Progressive Society (IPS) home branch from 1952 to 1972. He established the famous Ogo-Jesu Bakery at Ijebu Imusin in 1973. He introduced ‘aso ebi’ during the Ijebu Imusin Annual Rally. He supervised the building of the Ijebu Imusin Post Office. With his influence, the Botam Paper Industry was established at Iperin, Ijebu Imusin, in January 1980.
He received the title of Baba Ijo of the Catholic Church, Esure, Ijebu Imusin, and the Ijebu Imusin Community Merit Award in 1994. He was conferred with the traditional title of ‘Bobagbimo’ of Ijebu Imusin in 1975 and ‘Otunba Aperinmaiya’ of Iperin on 15th August 1980. He was married to Madam Victoria Adunni Igbodipe and they had seventeen children. He died on 27 June 1999.
