Dora O. Olukoya is an indigene of Ijebu Imusin. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Education) in French from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and an M.Sc. in Guidance and Counselling from Indiana University, Bloom Indiana, U.S.A.  

Armed with well over forty years of experience in the education sector, she is a dynamic and an accomplished educationist; her core areas of specialisation being Guidance and Counselling and Empowerment of the Girl Child.  

With a strong belief in education as a vital tool of all human development, she has focused on the self-development of the individual through emphasis on informal or student-centred learning, as against the traditional approach to education through teacher-centred learning or instructor-led learning. 

She served as NYSC Lecturer at Queen Amina College, Kaduna, from 1973 to 1974 and as a teacher at Government Girls’ Secondary School, Kaduna, from 1974 to 1977. Between 1977 and 1983, she was a Teacher/Guidance Counsellor at Command Secondary School, Kaduna.  She next taught at Queens’ College, Yaba, Lagos, and then from 2003 to 2008 she was Principal of Federal Government Girl’s College, Gboko, Benue State.

 She has made numerous accomplishments and left behind a number of legacies in her illustrious career.  She was Assistant Co-ordinator, Forum for African Women Education (FAWE) Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, and is the current Chairperson of School Based Management Committee of Federal Science and Technical Science College, Ijebu Imusin.  She was a co-founder of ‘The Girls’ Education Movement’ – GEM in FGGC, Gboko, Benue State.  She was also the founder of the Guidance and Counselling Unit at the Command Secondary School, Kaduna.

She developed the Blue Print for Nigeria on Guidance and Counselling, and in collaboration with other team members, designed the Cumulative Assessment Record Folder for Special Schools.  She established the Peace and Conflict Resolution Club in Queens’ College, Yaba, Lagos, and the Parents’ Day (to promote parents ’participation in their children’s educational development) in Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko, Benue State.
