Lt. Col. Mutiu Adekunle Hassan Oshunkoya (Rtd.) was born in 1948 at Isewo, Ijebu-Imusin. He attended Baptist Day Primary School, Zaria, from 1955 to 1962 and Nigeria Military School (NMS), Zaria, from 1963 to 1966. He joined the Nigerian Army in 1963 through the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, serving as an Order Rank from Private in 1967 and was promoted to Warrant Officer II (WOII) in 1977. He was granted commission to the rank of Lieutenant through the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Direct Regular Commission (DRC) course in 1977.

Lt. Col. Oshunkoya has attended many military and professional courses, both local and overseas, namely: Fuel/Electric System Course, US Army Ordinance Centre and School Aberdeen, USA (1971); Electronics Equipment Repairs, US Army South Eastern Signal School Augusta GA (1972); Telecoms Artificer Course, School of Electronics Engineering, Aborfied Berks, UK (1975-1977); and Young Officers Electronics Course (1978), Electrical and Mechanical Engineering College Secundrabad AP. India. He also attended the Junior Division Staff College at the Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna in 1981; Telephone Installation Assessment Tour in UK, USA, Germany and Jordan in 1982; Vickers Tank Repairs Course 1982/83 at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Bordon Hants, UK; and Workshop Company Commanders Course (1985) at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Auchi, Nigeria.

Lt. Col. Oshunkoya has served and commanded at various levels locally and internationally. He was Officer Commanding (OC) Telecoms – Base Workshop Yaba Lagos; Admin Officer (AO) – Base Workshops Yaba Lagos; OC Telecoms – 3 Infantry Workshop Benin; OC Radar – Artillery Workshop Kakuri, Kaduna; OC Repairs Company – 32 Field Arty Workshop, Owerri; Staff Officer II (SOII) Ballistics – HQ Nigeria Army Electrical/Mechanical Engineers (HQNAEME) Bonny Camp, Lagos; SOII Training – HQNAEME  Bonny Camp, Lagos; OC Repairs Company – 21 Armoured Workshop, Maiduguri; Commanding Officer (CO) – 3 Mechanised Workshop, Kano; Commanding Officer – 21 Armoured Workshop, Maiduguri; Commanding Officer – Nigerian Contingent (NIGCON) Workshop/Coordinator ECOMOG Workshop, Monrovia, Liberia; Chief Instructor (CI)/HOD Mechanical Engineering Dept., Nigeria Army Elect/Mechanical Engineering School (NAEMES), Auchi; and Chief Instructor/HOD Electrical Engineering Department, NAEME School, Auchi. He retired in 1999 after 39 years of meritorious service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.).

He has participated in various military operations and exercises, including the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970), ‘Operation Cross Bow’ 1981 (Nigeria/Chad border) and the Liberian Civil War (1992-1994). Lt. Col. Oshunkoya has travelled far and wide, visiting countries such as USA, UK, Germany, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. During his military career, Lt. Col. Oshunkoya played hockey at Unit and Army level and football at Unit level only.  Since retirement, he has been living a quiet and private life in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. Reading, travelling and keeping abreast of current affairs are now what he does for recreation. He is happily married with children.
