Otunba Edmund Oluwole Osinaike was born on January 9, 1939. He had his primary school education at St. Mary Primary School, Ijebu Imusin, and finished in 1954. He was a very brilliant pupil, and always got the 1st position in his class. His academic brilliance was exhibited in competitive examinations organised by Ijebu Imusin Progressive Society among primary schools in Ijebu Imusin. He always won the 1st prize during the award ceremony of Omo Olumusin, which is now ‘Ijebu Imusin Day’. He proceeded to Eko Boys High School, Lagos for his secondary education which he successfully completed in 1959.
He worked briefly as Laboratory Assistant at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Ibadan before proceeding to Paddington Technical College, Saltram Crescent, London, where he graduated in flying colours in Laboratory Technology in 1967. On returning to Nigeria, he joined the services of the Chemistry Department of the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. When the university took off at the old Nigeria College of Science and Technology, Ibadan, in 1976, he showed his leadership qualities in his capacity as Chairman of the PTA of the staff school.
His record as past President of the University Staff Club was impressive. He was past President of the University of Ife non-teaching staff for many years. As a result of his dedication and commitment to service, the Union of the school organised a whole week activities to celebrate his retirement.
Otunba Osinaike made his mark in whatever society or club to which he belonged. He was a very active member of Ijebu Imusin Planning Body, Y.M.C.A and the elected President of Fountain of Hope Society of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Ijebu Imusin, before his demise.
He was a very amiable, confident, supportive and dependable man. He was married to Chief (Mrs.) Ronke Osinaike and they had children and grandchildren.
