Colonel (Prince) Otulana Adekunle was born on July 1, 1949 at Idoko Aledo, Ijebu Imusin. He attended St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Imusin, from 1956 to 1960; St. Martins Modern School Esure, Ijebu Imusin, from 1964 to 1965; and Nigerian Military School, Zaria from 1966 to 1970. He proceeded to the United Kingdom where he did his Officer Cadet Training at Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, Hants, UK, from February to September 1972.
At various times, he attended professional courses at the U.S Army Intelligence Centre and School, Fort Huachuca, Arizona, USA. and at the U.S Army Institute of International Studies, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, USA, where he was awarded a Diploma in Psychological Operation. He holds a B.Sc. in War Studies from Baluchistan University, Quetta, Pakistan, and a Diploma in National Transformation, which he obtained at the Institute of National Transformation, Lagos, Nigeria in 2007.
Colonel Adekunle served in a number of capacities in the Nigerian Army, which include being Commanding Officer, Strategic Intelligence Group, Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps; Colonel General Staff, Directorate of Military Intelligence; and Commanding Officer, Psychological Operations Group, Nigerian Army. He was the first Military Information Officer of ECOMOG in Liberia and first Press and Humanitarian Officer of the force. He was Military Information Officer of the Nigerian Battalion in Lebanon.
He was Chairman, Armed Forces and Police Committee on Social Mobilisation (an arm of MAMSER); Director of Operations, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Defence Headquarters; Director of Military Intelligence, Nigerian Army; and Commander, 2 Division, Nigerian Army Intelligence Group (headquartered in Ibadan but responsible for the South-West states as well as Kwara and Edo States).
Colonel (Prince) Otulana Christopher Adekunle has contributed towards the development of the community. In his capacity as DMI in 2000/2001, he arranged and planted the federal government borehole at Ijebu Imusin and also paid for the generator from his own personal resources.
He belongs to various professionals and business associations. He is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (ISP), United States Institute of Security (USIS), and Society of Security Practitioners of Nigeria (SSPN). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Security, and Chairman, Lagos State Chapter. He is also a member of Ibadan Golf Club.
Colonel Adekunle is author of a book titled, Psychological Operations Policy for the Nigerian Army. He has been the recipient of several awards and honours, such as the United Nations Award (UNIFIL), ECOMOG Medal and Meritorious Service Star (MSS), amongst others.
He is at present an ordained pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG.) He finds time to play golf, jog, swim, read and do some farming. He is married to Mrs. Joy Otulana, and they have five children.
