Prof. Olufisan Oladele Taiwo was born on September 15, 1945, at Idoko Aledo, Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State, Nigeria into the family of Pa Jonathan Oladipupo Taiwo of Idoko Aledo, Ijebu Imusin. He started his elementary education at St. Michael’s Anglican Primary School, Kaduna, from 1952 to 1957, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) with Grade I in 1959. Thereafter, he gained admission into Molusi College, Ijebu Imusin, from 1958 to 1962, where he completed his secondary education and obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1962. After the secondary education, he secured admission into the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, and studied from 1963 to 1969 to earn an MBBS in 1969. He also attended Aberdeen College of Paediatric Medicine in Scotland from 1972 to 1973, where he was awarded MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, Scotland) in 1973.
He taught briefly at St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Esure before proceeding to the university. He worked as Senior Registrar at UCH Ibadan, then as Pioneer Consultant of the University of Ife Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, where he was awarded a special honour for his selfless services to the Management Board. He was appreciated for his dedication, commitment and loyalty to the institution’s development and progress. He died on December 18, 2000.
