Otunba Joseph Abiodun was born on October 29, 1946, in Ijagbure, Ijebu Imusin. He attended St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu Imusin from 1954 to 1960 and Olu-Iwa College (now Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu Ode) to complete his secondary education. He went on to sit for and passed both his West African School Certificate (WASC) and GCE O ‘Levels. He obtained his NCE from the University of Lagos in 1973, and the Certificate in Basic Agriculture from the University of Ibadan in 1976, followed by a B. Ed. (Hons) from the same institution in 1980.
Otunba Joseph Abiodun worked with the Federal Ministry of Information, Lagos, as a Clerical Officer from 1966 until 1973 when he left to take up a teaching appointment at St. Finbar’s College, Akoka, Lagos. He served for 11 years, first as a Science Teacher and later as a Games Master (1973-1984), during which he taught Stephen Keshi, a respected Nigerian football coach.
He was an Inspector of Education at the Lagos State Ministry of Education from 1984 to 1990. He worked as the Vice Principal of Ago Egba High School, Ebute-Metta, from 1990 to 1991. He was Principal Education Officer, PP-TESCOM Headquarters, Old Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos, from September 1991 to November 1991. He acted as Principal of Isale Eko Grammar School, Lagos Island, from 1991 to 1998; and from 1998 to 2001 was Principal, of Boys’ Academy, Lagos.
He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Lagos Zone; and Publicity Secretary/PRO, ANCOPPSS, Lagos State. He was Publicity Secretary, of Ijebu East Education Development Fund, in 1986; and Executive Vice-Chairman, of Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State in 2007.
Otunba Abiodun Joseph Segun is a descendant of the Adefalujo and Ogundesu families. He belongs to the Ijagbure Community Development Association. He holds the chieftaincy title of Otunba Bobakeye of Ijebu Imusin, and he is a member of the Ijebu Imusin Council of Chiefs. He loves reading and engaging in brainstorming sessions. He plays lawn tennis and is a member of Club 15, Ijebu Imusin, and Adeola ’65 Club. He is married with five children.
