Alayeluwa Oba Joseph Abayomi Adefuye Fakoya was born on March 4, 1949 at Ibon Won, Epe, Lagos. He hails from Ijebu-Imusin, Ijebu East Local Government Area, Ogun State. Oba Fakoya attended Roman Catholic Primary School, Ejinrin from 1956 to 1961, where obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1961. He then had his secondary education at St. Brendan’s Secondary Modern School, Ejinrin, from 1962 to 1964, obtaining the Secondary Modern School Certificate in 1965. He attended St. Peter’s Teachers’ College, Akure, from 1968 to 1970, where he obtained his Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1971 and went further to pass the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E Advanced Level) in 1975. Later that year, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan and graduated in 1978 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Economics, Geography, and Political Science with specialization in Sociology.  Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya subsequently received certificates in Supply and Management and in the City and Guild Examination, both in 1992.  

Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya served as a teacher at St. Augustine’s Commercial School, Iwo; St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic School, Abebi, Ibadan, from 1973 to 1975; before leaving to teach at Abusi Edumare Comprehensive Secondary School, Ijebu-Igbo. He later joined the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lagos, where he served for 16 years (1980-1996). He was Senior Manager in the Administration Department of the bank. In this position, he was accountable for the Purchases and Supply Office, the Transport and Travels Protocol Office, and the General Office.  Before being appointed as Senior Manager, he served as Manager (Management Staff) in the Trade and Exchange Department, where he was saddled with responsibility for the Documentary/Storage and Removal Office. Before then he was a Senior Staff in the Personnel Department, where he kept office records and dealt with staff matters.

Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), a Member of the British Institute of Management and the British Institute of Supply and Materials Management.  He is also a Fellow of the British Institute of Sales and Marketing Management.

Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya has several ascribed traditional chieftaincy titles. He has held the title of His Royal Regent of Magunsen Itamarun, Ijebu-Imusin (1982-1989); Asiwaju of Itamarun, Ijebu-Imusin; Otunba Usenade of Itamarun, Ijebu-Imusin; and Otunba Atewogbuwa of Ijebu-Imusin.

A social being who believes in fostering good interpersonal relationships with his fellow humans, Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya is affiliated with a number of social clubs, such as the Island Club, Lagos; Social Starlite Club, Ikeja, Lagos; Federal Civil Services Club, Yaba;  Ijebu-Ode Club, Ijebu- Ode and many more. His hobbies include football and reading. He has a love for flowers and enjoys aesthetics (Photography and Designs). Alayeluwa Oba Fakoya is happily married and blessed with sons and daughters.
