Alayeluwa Oba Muideen Olutumbi Okunola Hassan was born on February 5, 1938, to the famous Sanni Family of Esugbon Ijebu-Imusin.  His father, Alhaji Hassan Olayinka, was one of the sons of the highly influential and prosperous Sanni Oshikomaiya, the Baale of Esugbon and Osi Adinni of Ijebu-Imusin, and the head of the Otun Oshi family. His paternal grandmother, Madam Osenatu Sanni, was the daughter of Otunba Maketi, the formidable and powerful Alapoekun of Esugbon from Otun Iwaye. His mother, Madam Salamot Olayemi Hassan Sanni, was from the famous Omomo family in Imagbon. She died in 1944 at an early age.

The young Muideen Hassan started his primary school education at CMS Primary School, Iloro, Ilesha, and completed it at Nawair-Ud-Deen Primary School, Ilesha. He proceeded to Ilesha Grammar School for his secondary school education between 1954 and 1958.

Oba Muideen Hassan worked briefly as an X-ray technician at Ode-Oyo Hospital, Ibadan, for a couple of months before he resigned to take up a clerical appointment at the then Territorial Controllers Office, Post and Telegraph, Ibadan.  He was transferred to Akure in 1961, where he resigned in 1962 and proceeded to the United Kingdom in search of the Golden Fleece.

In the UK, he enrolled as a part-time Building Technology student at the then Northern Polytechnic Holloway (now Metropolitan University, London) in North London between 1962 and 1965 for his Ordinary Certificate in Building.  He had his Higher National Certificate between 1966 and 1967 in the same polytechnic. He later obtained a council grant for a one-year full-time course and obtained a Diploma in Construction Management in 1968 also at the Northern Polytechnic in London.

On his return to Nigeria in January 1969, Oba Muideen Hassan secured employment with a reputable British construction company, Messrs T.L. Roberts & Co. Ltd. as a builder quantity surveyor. He held various posts in the company and was appointed as the Company’s Technical Director in 1989. He left the company in 1993 to become the Chief Executive, of Messrs De-Deens & Co. Ltd. Owing to an accident he suffered at the construction site, Oba Muideen Hassan retired from active service in 1998.

He devoted his time to the service of humanity. As a good Muslim, Oba Muideen Hassan became a member of the Ramat Islamiyya Association of Nigeria in 1985 and contributed in many ways to the progress and development of the association, serving as the Ikeja Branch Chairman in 1999. He held this position until May 2011 when he became an Oba.

Initially, he had no ambition of becoming an Oba. For many years, he had resisted attempts and persuasions to become the Otunba Alapoekun of Esugbon when his father was the Regent. As he grew older and became frequent at home, he saw a yawning vacuum in leadership and came to the inevitable realization that a community without an official head would be left behind in the march for development and rating as a viable social entity. After his father died, he was persuaded again and he then accepted to offer leadership to the Esugbon Community. Thus, he was elected Otunba Alapoekun of the Esugbon Community and was presented to Oba Alayeluwa, the Oloko of Ijebu-Imusin, in 2005 for confirmation.

Oba Muideen was subsequently appointed the Otunba of Esugbon by His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, before his elevation to a coronet-wearing Oba as the Elesugbon of Esugbon.

Oba Alayeluwa Muideen Hassan is kind-hearted, warm, amiable, and charitable. He is an upright leader who insists on and believes in what is right and just. He is a fearless man of the people who enjoins selfless service and righteous conduct.  His ambition is to offer good leadership and selfless service to his community with honesty and dedication.

Oba Muideen Hassan is a member of the Lagos Country Club, Island Club, and Ikeja Club.  He is happily married and blessed with children.
