Engr. Sunday Olatunji Jaiyesimi was born on August 22, 1948, in Jos, Plateau State. He had his primary education at St. Mary’s Anglican Primary School, Ijebu-Imusin from 1955 to 1961 and began his secondary education at Ijebu Ode Grammar School in 1962. In 1964, he moved to CMS Grammar School, Lagos, where he completed his secondary education in 1968. He attended Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, from 1970 to 1973 and completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering, and later obtained the Higher National Certificate of Education in Civil Engineering from Yaba College of Technology between 1975 and 1977.

Engr. Jaiyesimi completed the compulsory one-year NYSC Primary Assignment in Lagos between 1977 and 1978 before joining Yaba College of Technology as Resident Engineer, where he remained from 1978 to 1981. He was subsequently appointed as Manager of, the Property Cooperative Supply Association, Yaba, from 1981 to 1984. From 1986 to 1992, Engr. Jaiyesimi served as Resident Site Representative, in charge of development projects in Abuja, Ibadan, Jos, Kaduna, and Lagos for United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Senior Manager (Premises), responsible for procurement and maintenance of all properties of Gateway Bank (now part of Access Bank) from 1992 to 1995. 

In 1995, Engr. Jaiyesimi ventured into private practice and has since established two private companies known as Sojimi Structures for Consultancy Practice and Sojimi Services Limited for Building and Consultancy Works.  He was the Chairman (Lagos State Chapter), of the Nigerian Institute of Building from 2001 to 2002, a member of the National Council of the Nigerian Institute of Building for six years, and a member and Chairman (Lagos Branch), the Nigeria Society of Engineers from 2011 to 2012. He was also a member of the Procurement Committee of the University of Lagos from 2011 to 2012, and a Board Member, of the Human Resources Development Centre, University of Lagos in 2012.

Engr. Jaiyesimi has been awarded several other professional certificates and he holds the fellowships of the Nigerian Institute of Building, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers. He belongs to the University of Lagos Staff Club, Lagos Country Club, and Octagon ’90 Club, Unilag. He is a recipient of the Merit Award of CMS Grammar School Old Boys Association. He is married with sons and daughters.
